WHAT WE ARE UP TO!We had a great week this week! We earned our LEXIA Ice Cream Party and got to enjoy some warm weather!ReadingWe read a really neat story this week that was all about "The First Tortilla." This is an old legend and was really fun for us to read! We even discovered a tortilla recipe at the end of the story! Reading GroupsWe practiced our reading fluency skills in our reading groups today and worked on our comprehension by answering questions together. WritingWe have started writing our first Narrative stories! We have been working on making exciting beginnings, and then today we wrote the rest of our story. We will work with the Narrative Writing Diamond to make our stories even more exciting! MathWe just wrapped up our Measurement Unit! We had some fun this week and used a ruler to make our own robots! Other exciting things this week:We had some other fun things happen this week too! We were one of the first classes to find a Dr. Seuss GLOSTA Rock! We found it on the playground and then got to create a poem to give a hint for where we hid the rock for the next day! We also earned our LEXIA Ice Cream Party! We were one of the top classes to spend 45 minutes a week on Lexia with almost 100% participation from each student! We had a wonderfully fun week this week! We celebrated the 100th Day of School and Dr. Seuss! 100th Day of School!We are so happy to have made it all the way to 100 days of school IN PERSON! We did so many fun activities to celebrate today! How much can you do in 100 seconds?How many times can you hop, count, write your name, write verbs, and sit/stand? 100 Years OldWhat will you look like and what will you do when you are 100 years old? We drew ourselves at 100 and wrote about things we would do! Roll 100100 CreationsHappy Birthday Dr. Seuss!Dr. Seuss's birthday was this week, so we spent some time exploring some of our favorite books of his and had a Cat in the Hat day! We also had a crazy hair day today!Happy Valentine's Day!!We had a wonderful Valentine's Day at school today! Making Our BagsPassing out our Valentine's!!We had a really fun day today! Everyone have a wonderful break!Our Week!This week was really busy and we worked so HARD to learn new things! ReadingWe read a really great Fable called A Froggy Fable this week. It was really fun to read the story and figure out what the lesson of the fable was. We learned that change can be a good thing and should not be something to dread and worry about. WritingWe are gearing up to start our Narrative Writing Unit. This week we worked on writing super sentences that give more descriptive details. We played a fun game of Roll and Write, and then illustrated our favorite sentences! MathWe have been HARD AT WORK on learning Bar Models. This week we learned about 1 and 2 step comparison Bar Models. These types of word problems compare two different things. These Bar Models can be a huge challenge to understand and we have really worked hard and been very dedicated to trying our best. Feel free to practice these Bar Models on Math Playground! Play the game called "Thinking Blocks!" by clicking the button below! Our Week!We had another wonderful week in our classroom! ReadingThis week's reading lesson was all about creative ideas! We read a great story called "Rosa and Blanca." about two sisters that have the great ideas to help each other. FundationsWe learned a new kind of syllable this week! We learned all about open syllables and how to mark them up. We also practiced marking the other syllable types we have learned. WritingIn writing this week, we learned how to use a sentence checklist to make sure our sentences are written correctly in our journals each day! From now on, if we write our sentences correctly, we will get 5 tickets each day! MathWe did a really good job practicing Bar Models this week. Next week, we will move on to learning a new kind of bar model! ScienceWe are still exploring the world of Earth Science and investigating the different sized of earth material. So far we have learned about boulders, cobble, pebbles, gravel, and sand. Our investigation this week was to see if there is an earth material that is smaller than sand. We put sand in a vial and shook it. We let it settle over night to see what happens to it.
Our Week!We are so glad to be back at school after the holidays! A new year, brings new goals! Our first task this week was to write some New Year's Resolutions for the rest of our second grade year! We read the book Squirrel's New Year's Resolution before making a list of things we wanted to accomplish this year. Then we did a really fun craft to celebrate our resolutions. We will revisit these often and make sure we are doing everything we can to reach this goal! ReadingIn Reading this week, we read an old folk tale called Anansi Goes Fishing. It was really fun to realize that we had heard this story before, only a different version! We also learned about verb tenses. We watched a great Youtube video with a catchy tune to help us learn about verbs in the past, present, and future. FundationsThis week we learned about multisyllabic words with both the closed syllable and the v-e syllable. We also learned that sometimes the v-e syllable can have an exceptions, for example in the word give! MathWe are using what we learned about adding and subtracting and now applying that to word problems. It can be tricky figuring out if we need to add or subtract, so we use a Bar Model to help us! We practiced doing Bar Models with unifix cubes, our dry erase boards, and a really fun game on Mathplayground.com called Thinking Blocks! What we have been up to!We have had a very busy, but FUN couple of week! We have learned all about verbs, different ways to communicate, descriptive writing, subtraction, and all about river rocks! We also had some very fun activities from Snowflake! Reading StreetWe read a great story called "Dear Juno" this week and learned how writing letters and using sign language are ways to communicate. FundationsThis week was all about Silent E and long vowels. We learned how to use this strategy and learned about a new syllable called v-e. TypseyWe learned a new program on the Chromebook called Typsey! This great program teaches us how to type on a computer keyboard. WritingWhen we return to school in January, we will be starting to learn about Narrative Writing. We explored and experienced what really great writing sounds like when the author uses a lot of elaborative details. We read the book Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and drew a picture of what we heard while listening to the story. Our pictures came our great!!
We also spent some time making really cool Gloucester themed ornaments to hang on our trees this year! MathWe have been working so hard on learning subtraction! We are all becoming subtraction masters! Everyone got a 100 on their TEST!!!! ScienceThis week, we learned all about how to sort river rocks by size! We discovered and investigated pebbles, gravel, and sand. We used screens to separate our rock mixture. BUBBLE KEEPERS!!!Congratulations to Zariah, Mia, and Giana for being excellent Bubble Keepers this week! Great job ladies!! Fun with Snowflake!We have been having so much fun with Snowflake in our classroom! We got to make special snowflakes and decorate our classroom this week! We are also practicing 12 Days of Christmas Kindness by trimming Santa’s beard everyday until Christmas!! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!! |
