Our Day Today!We had a great day today! ReadingThis week we are learning about why helping others is important. Our story this week is called The Bremen Town Musicians. This is a drama/fairytale story! We really enjoyed it. Book Fair Preview!Yesterday we got to preview the book fair! It was so much fun! MathThis week in math we are reviewing our subtraction skills! We have gotten really good at using Base 10 Blocks to solve three digit subtraction problems and showing how to regroup! Character Ed with Ms. LabellaWe love our Character Ed Lessons! This month was all about working hard and not giving up, “The Power of Yet.” Computer LabWe love practicing our typing skills with All The Right Type!

Happy Thanksgiving!We have had a fun week of Thanksgiving Themed activities! Reader’s TheaterWe are reenacting the story A Turkey for Thanksgiving in our reading groups! We split up into different parts and are having so much fun practicing our mini plays. A Harvest of WordsWe had a fun word competition today! We cut out the letters that make up the words “Thankful Hearts” and scrambled them to make new words! The top three people that came up with the most words were awarded a fun prize! Turkey Take-AwayWe played a really fun strategy game for math! This game involves careful planning and thinking. In a group of two, each player crosses out one, two, or three turkeys at a time. The loser is the one to cross out the last turkey! Turkey GlyphOur Turkeys!We enjoyed coloring a glyph to represent our favorite Thanksgiving foods and activities! It was so fun to compare each picture after we finished coloring. Thanksgiving BINGO!We made our own BINGO boards and played a fun game together as a class! Thanksgiving Pajama Day!!What We Are Up To!We have had a great week so far! ReadingThis week in reading, we are learning about Economics. Our story is called Scarcity and it is teaching us all about how to help other people meet their needs. WritingIn writing this week, we are writing a narrative piece about Fall! These stories are going to be so great! MathWe are moving on to subtraction this week. We are starting out by reviewing subtraction strategies and then practicing with two digit numbers. Our number talks this week have been a challenge to show the same strategies we used for addition in reverse for subtraction. Today we practiced using the Base 10 Block strategy and the number line strategy to show how to regroup when subtracting. We love getting to use dry erase markers on our desks!! Our Day Today!We had another great day in Second Grade today! ReadingThis week our Reading Street story is about Abraham Lincoln. We have been reading about how he worked to change history by being one of the greatest presidents. In writing response, we wrote about what kind of a story a biography is and how it is a story written about a person. WritingThis week we are learning about story critical characters and how to describe them in detail. We started out our lesson by first drawing our own scarecrows and then answering some detail generating questions to add to them. We will write a short paragraph about our scarecrows tomorrow. MathWe have been working on adding numbers with different place value strategies. We have been using base 10 blocks, expanded form, and number lines. We have been solving word problems during our Number Talks this week and sharing our answers! Today we practiced adding with three digit numbers and regrouping in the tens and ones places. We are almost ready to show what we know on our math assessment! Veteran Readers!Yesterday we had a wonderful time listening to a story about Veteran's Day, read by one of our very own veterans here in Gloucester! What a wonderful tradition this is for Kindergarten through Second Grade!!
Our Day Today!Happy November! We are going to have a great week. Today we learned about history, contractions, and adding with different strategies! We also have a new calendar up for the month! ReadingThis week’s focus question is “How has working together changed history?” We will be reading a very neat biography about Abraham Lincoln this week and learning new amazing words to add to our own vocabulary! ContractionsOur reading street phonics skill this week is contractions. We learned many different ways of saying what we want to say in a shorter way. We will be practicing this skill in our word work station by playing a memory game with a partner and practicing making our own contractions. MathToday in math we reviewed how to add two digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will move on to three digit numbers this week before we have our test. We made sure to practice all the strategies we have learned during our Number Talk today. We practiced using our strategies more by playing a fun Tic Tac Toe addition game with a partner! Library DayWe love our library time every week. Today we all really loved finding comfy places to sit and read our books in the library.
