WE HAD A GREAT WEEK!What a great week we had! We learned how to do addition with Base 10 Blocks, about writing sentences using subjects and predicates, and all about sorting rocks by size! We also had our very first library visit! MATHWe are starting to learn addition. At first, we used our unifix cubes to model and practice Making a 10 to help us add mentally. We also learned how to use Base 10 Blocks to add. We practiced addition using 3 digit numbers, without regrouping this week. We built the addition problems and practiced drawing the blocks to solve. WRITINGWe have been learning about how sentences are built. This week we learned about subjects being the nouns in the sentence and how the predicate is the verb, or action in a sentence! We watched a fun video about "Mr. Morton" and then marked the subjects and predicates in some sentences from the video. SCIENCEWe are still learning all about different earth materials. This week we used screens to separate a mixture of different sized rocks into 4 sizes! We had large pebbles, small pebbles, gravel, and sand. First we observed the mixture and tried to sort it with just our hands. We used three different screens to sort our mixture. LIBRARY TIME!We had a great first visit to the library! Even with the new quiet rules, we enjoyed ourselves and did a great job!

OUR WEEK IN SECOND GRADE!We have had a great last couple weeks! We are exploring all different kinds of rocks, we have completed our first chapter of Math, and can ROCK numbers! We learned to write numbers in 4 different ways, how to compare numbers, and how to skip count! MATHWe are all really great at using three digit numbers! We practiced the skills we learned by playing a lot of different math games together. Roll and Add to 100Roll and CompareFour in a Row Fact FluencyWorking hard in our math books.SCIENCEWe have been learning all about ROCKS. We explored three special rocks last week and eventually learned that they came from a VOLCANO and are called tuff, basalt, and scoria! We learned about using properties to describe earth materials and described river rocks. Volcanic RocksRiver RocksMystery ScienceWe also did a really neat Mystery Science lesson about erosion and weathering to learn how sand ends up being created! We followed rocks down from mountains and rivers to show how they are broken up over time. COUPON USING FUN!A couple of our friends used their tickets to buy some fun coupons. Garon used his to read a really funny book to our class!! Michael used 100 of his tickets to be the Teacher's Assistant! He did a great job taking over Calendar Math yesterday!
What have been up to!It has been a busy couple of week and we have learned a lot! Second StepsWe have been doing a lot with our Second Steps program and are learning about being respectful, using self-talk, and being assertive. We played a really fun game of "Doodle Dance" and had to use self-talk to remember what dance move to do for each doodle we saw! We also used Mojo the Class Dojo Monster to learn about being respectful! ScienceWe started our Earth Science unit this week! We will be exploring rocks, sand, and silt for the next few weeks and learn all about weathering and erosion. This week we explored 3 different kinds of rocks and used them to make sand. MathWe have all become Place Value WIZARDS in this class! We have been working three digit numbers and learned to build them and write them in four different ways. We can show numbers in standard form, base 10 form, expanded form, and word form! Exploring Base 10 BlocksMaking Base 10 CreaturesPlace Value RobotsWHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO!We had a great second week of school! We are getting used to our regular routines and have gotten all settled in! Writing RulesWe worked hard together to write our classroom agreements. These are rules that we will have for our classroom all year long. We worked in our small groups to come up with ideas of how to treat each other, our teacher, and how to solve conflicts. We typed them up and then all signed our names to promise to follow the rules we made together! Bag About MeWe loved getting to know more about each other by listening to presentations of our 3 items that tell the most about us! ScienceWe loved getting into some science this week! We talked about what scientists do and how we also do all of the same things! When asked, "What is a scientist?" the answer is YOU! We also did a really neat "I wonder..." exploration on Mystery Science with Doug! MathWe learned all about how to use a 100s chart this week! We explored it and filled in the missing numbers and then we used the 100s chart to count by ones and tens! Backyard GrowersWe harvested our garden this week and picked some of the biggest squash we have ever seen! We also got to explore some sunflowers and see where sunflower seeds come from. We even got to TRY some of the harvest in the cafeteria the next day! WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL |
