Our Week! This week was really busy and we worked so HARD to learn new things! ReadingWe read a really great Fable called A Froggy Fable this week. It was really fun to read the story and figure out what the lesson of the fable was. We learned that change can be a good thing and should not be something to dread and worry about. WritingWe are gearing up to start our Narrative Writing Unit. This week we worked on writing super sentences that give more descriptive details. We played a fun game of Roll and Write, and then illustrated our favorite sentences! MathWe have been HARD AT WORK on learning Bar Models. This week we learned about 1 and 2 step comparison Bar Models. These types of word problems compare two different things. These Bar Models can be a huge challenge to understand and we have really worked hard and been very dedicated to trying our best. Feel free to practice these Bar Models on Math Playground! Play the game called "Thinking Blocks!" by clicking the button below!

Our Week!We had another wonderful week in our classroom! ReadingThis week's reading lesson was all about creative ideas! We read a great story called "Rosa and Blanca." about two sisters that have the great ideas to help each other. FundationsWe learned a new kind of syllable this week! We learned all about open syllables and how to mark them up. We also practiced marking the other syllable types we have learned. WritingIn writing this week, we learned how to use a sentence checklist to make sure our sentences are written correctly in our journals each day! From now on, if we write our sentences correctly, we will get 5 tickets each day! MathWe did a really good job practicing Bar Models this week. Next week, we will move on to learning a new kind of bar model! ScienceWe are still exploring the world of Earth Science and investigating the different sized of earth material. So far we have learned about boulders, cobble, pebbles, gravel, and sand. Our investigation this week was to see if there is an earth material that is smaller than sand. We put sand in a vial and shook it. We let it settle over night to see what happens to it.
Our Week!We are so glad to be back at school after the holidays! A new year, brings new goals! Our first task this week was to write some New Year's Resolutions for the rest of our second grade year! We read the book Squirrel's New Year's Resolution before making a list of things we wanted to accomplish this year. Then we did a really fun craft to celebrate our resolutions. We will revisit these often and make sure we are doing everything we can to reach this goal! ReadingIn Reading this week, we read an old folk tale called Anansi Goes Fishing. It was really fun to realize that we had heard this story before, only a different version! We also learned about verb tenses. We watched a great Youtube video with a catchy tune to help us learn about verbs in the past, present, and future. FundationsThis week we learned about multisyllabic words with both the closed syllable and the v-e syllable. We also learned that sometimes the v-e syllable can have an exceptions, for example in the word give! MathWe are using what we learned about adding and subtracting and now applying that to word problems. It can be tricky figuring out if we need to add or subtract, so we use a Bar Model to help us! We practiced doing Bar Models with unifix cubes, our dry erase boards, and a really fun game on Mathplayground.com called Thinking Blocks! |
