Our Week!We had a fun week! We learned about editing and revising our writing, more measurement and even got to go on a field trip! Reading StreetThis week we read a legend called "The First Tortilla" about a brave girl that discovered corn and made the first tortilla for her village. We really enjoyed reading about her and writing about the brave things that she did in the story. WritingWe finished up out writing piece about being curious this week. We learned how to edit and revise another person’s draft and help them with spelling and punctuation. Today we copied our final drafts and illustrated so that we could publish our writing. Our Field Trip!We had such a fun field trip to the North Shore Music Theater go see Curious George and the Golden Meatball! Our Week!We learned a lot this week! We had some really fun investigations with math and science this week as well! Reading StreetWe read an old myth in Reading Street called “The Night the Moon Fell.” We practiced our skills of finding details in the story to explain the plot and theme. WritingNext week we are going on a field trip to see the play “Curious George and the Golden Meatball!” We decided to do our own curious writing piece this week about something we at curious about! We started by making a circle map to brainstorm all the different things we wonder about. The next day, we put our thoughts into words with a stop light writing organizer. Today, we added our sentences to a draft so that we can edit and revise next week before publishing! MathThis week we learned how to measure with customary units! We used rulers to measure and compare inches and feet. We also used our knowledge of using bar models to help us solve word problems about measurement. ScienceLast week we learned how rocks can move down mountains and rivers to create the sand at the beach. This week we had a wonderful sand investigation provided by one of the moms in our classroom! We dug deep into investigating the sand at local beaches of Gloucester and talked about how the same might have gotten to each beach! We looked at samples from Wingaersheak Beach, Niles Beach, and Good Harbor Beach! West Parish Spirit Day!Today we dressed as Word Wizards! Second Grade represented adjectives! Look at our pictures and see if you can guess our words! Our Week!We had a great week this week! We learned all about soil, started a measurement unit, and learned about why there is sand at the beach. We also celebrated St. Patty's Day! ReadingReading Street this week was all about changes that happen under the ground. Our focus question really got us thinking about soil! Our story was about Soil! We learned all about the materials that make up soil and about the particle sizes. MathThis week we learned how to measure using the metric system! We also learned adjectives used to describe measurements! We watched a Brainpop Jr video to learn about centimeters and meters. We have been spending the whole week measuring different things with meters and centimeters! ScienceWhy is there sand at the beach? We enjoyed a fun science investigation with Mystery Science and found out why! Sand comes from broken up rocks that make their way down the river to the ocean. West Parish Word WizardsThis month our school is collecting words to teach each other. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!!Our Week!What a fun week! We had a snow day and an early release day! Here are a few things that we did this week. WritingThis week in writing we worked on opinion writing. Our question was “Do you prefer dogs or cats?” We learned how to use the Opinion Pillar and started a writing piece about cats and dogs. MathWe started learning about measurement today! To get started, we read The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. Then, we measured our own feet and measured them with both nonstandard and standard units! We used unifix cubes, coins, and centimeters and inches! Spring Into Spirit Days: Super Heroes!Today was dress as your favorite super hero day for Spring into Spirit Days! We had lots of great outfits in our classroom today! Hungry!!We has another successful lunch experience with our friends that spent 100 tickets for the Hungry Coupon! West Parish Science Night!Last Friday was Science Night at West Parish. This even allowed for some family fun and science experiments. I had a blast attending and ran into a few friends while I was there! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday to honor Read Across America Day! We all came to school dressed as our favorite story characters, had a special guest reader, and learned about Dr. Seuss’s life! Our CostumesWe had tons of fun story book character costumes in our classroom today! Guest Reader!!We had the honor of having Mayor Theken read to our class today! She read us the Dr. Seuss book, Hop on Pop! Learning about Dr. SeussWe watched a Brain Pop Jr video about the life of Theodore Seuss Geisel and how he became one of our favorite authors! Then we listened to The Cat in the Hat and laughed with this funny story! Math FunWe are finishing up our unit on multiplication today! We enjoyed some fast fact review yesterday by playing the game “Salute!” HUNGRY??We have a new coupon in our Reward Coupon book! For 100 tickets, the kids can buy a pass to choose a friend to come have lunch on the classroom! There was a large group to have lunch in the classroom yesterday! We had so much fun!
