Our Week!We are so glad to be back at school after the holidays! A new year, brings new goals! Our first task this week was to write some New Year's Resolutions for the rest of our second grade year! We read the book Squirrel's New Year's Resolution before making a list of things we wanted to accomplish this year. Then we did a really fun craft to celebrate our resolutions. We will revisit these often and make sure we are doing everything we can to reach this goal! ReadingIn Reading this week, we read an old folk tale called Anansi Goes Fishing. It was really fun to realize that we had heard this story before, only a different version! We also learned about verb tenses. We watched a great Youtube video with a catchy tune to help us learn about verbs in the past, present, and future. FundationsThis week we learned about multisyllabic words with both the closed syllable and the v-e syllable. We also learned that sometimes the v-e syllable can have an exceptions, for example in the word give! MathWe are using what we learned about adding and subtracting and now applying that to word problems. It can be tricky figuring out if we need to add or subtract, so we use a Bar Model to help us! We practiced doing Bar Models with unifix cubes, our dry erase boards, and a really fun game on Mathplayground.com called Thinking Blocks!
