What We Have Been Up To!We have had a fun week so far! This week we have been exploring nature! Reading: Exploring NatureThis week our Reading Street Story is Henry and Mudge and The Starry Night. This week we are learning about realistic fiction and how to identify characters and settings of stories. Literacy StationsWe have gotten really into using our literacy station rotations. Each day we rotate through the stations. We have spelling work, buddy reading stories, and written responses we do in each station before making a new choice! Writing: Realistic FictionWe are practicing using detail in our writing. Part of writing response today was drawing! The more we wrote to describe the setting of the story, the more we got to draw in our picture! For writing we are starting with a picture. We drew a picture of ourselves and another character doing something in nature. Then, we labeled our pictures! Tomorrow we will add more details to our picture and start to write our stories. MATH: Comparing NumbersWe will be practicing how to compare three digit numbers this rest of the week. We practiced writing the vocabulary of “greater than, less than, and equal to” as well as how to use the symbols correctly. We had a great time exploring different activities in our math rotations today! Science: Properties of SolidsWe are still talking about matter! This week we talked about how to describe and sort solids. We took our science lesson outside into nature to gather supplies for sorting! We took our items inside and sorted them in our groups. We sorted by how our group decided to sort first. Next, we learned about the different properties of solids and we re-sorted our items! Second Steps: Being AssertiveThis week’s Second Steps lesson was all about being assertive. It’s important to be able to ask for help when you need it, using a calm, firm voice. We looked at the picture of this boy named Connor, and talked about how he could ask for help because he doesn't understand him math assignment. Then to practice what we have learned about focus and self talk, we played a fun game of “Doodle Dancing!” We had doodles that each represented a fun dance move! We learned the rhymes that go with them and then danced! (I apologize for the video quality! It would not turn the correct way and starts out pretty blurry... But was too cute to not try to post anyways!) HAPPY BIRTHDAY JORDIN!!
