Our Week So Far!We have been hard workers this week! ReadingThis week for Reading Street, we have been taking our Unit 1 Test! We spent some time reviewing and then we have been doing parts of our test everyday. We had to show what we learned by reading some passages and answering questions, recognizing phonics patterns and sight words, and responding to a writing prompt. We all worked really hard! WritingWe are still writing all about Autumn. This week we are talking about persuasive and opinion writing. We read a really fun book to learn some facts about fall. We used these facts to compare the differences between facts and opinions. We made a T-Chart to show them both. Then we filled out a sheet to show our likes and dislikes about autumn. After that we wrote our own opinion sentences about autumn. Computer LabWe went to the computer lab yesterday and we started using a new typing program called "All the Right Type." This program is showing us how to type using the keyboard the correct way. Today we all started out by practicing Home Row. MathThis week in math, we are working on using addition strategies to add two digit numbers. We are starting out by practicing this without regrouping. We used number lines to show how to count on using skip counting. Yesterday we learned how to practice this by using Base 10 Blocks. We continued practicing this skill today. We learned to make the numbers in Base 10 form to show how to add the ones and tens together to get our sum. We used our Base 10 blocks to make the numbers, and then our markers to draw the numbers on our desks. ScienceWe have been doing a really fun science investigation this week about the properties of solids. We used Mystery Science to discuss and investigate whether you can create a house out of paper. The lesson started out by thinking and talking about the different materials used to construct buildings and homes. We worked with a team to complete the whole science investigation. The second part of the activity was a challenge to build a tall tower out of note cards and paper clips. The third part of the activity was to construct a platform out of the same notecards that will hold a heavy book. Teacher’s AssistantsThese friends paid 50 Tickets to be my assistants this week!
