What We Are Up To!!We had a wonderful week here in Second Grade! We have been learning a lot! Reading: SleuthsWe read a really neat article in our Reading Street Sleuth books today, aboutGregory Mendel, a scientists! We read the article wit ha partner and then worked together to write clues from the reading that told us why this man was a scientist. Writing: Narrative WritingWe have been learning all about narrative writing this week. Usually a narrative piece is a story and the Author's Purpose is to Entertain their readers. We read a really fun story called "The Nutty Squirrel" and talked about whether it was realistic fiction or if it is fantasy fiction. Today we explored the Narrative Writing Diamond from Empowering Writers and we practiced writing our own narrative pieces about Autumn. Math: Making 10 and a New Game!We have been talking about different addition strategies this week. Today we practiced making a 10 using a Ten Frame. We also learned a new fun and challenging game called DIGIT PLACE! This is a guessing game where one person thinks of a two digit or a three digit number and the others try to guess the number. Each time there is a guess, the person with the number writes down how many digits match their number and if any of the digits are in the correct place in place value. The guessers have to use these hints to figure out the mystery number.
