Our Week So Far!We have had a fun week so far! We are learning all about George Washington Carver, comparing and contrasting, multiplication, and landforms! We also had another fun lesson from Change is Simple! ReadingThis week Reading Street is about where creative ideas come from. We have discussed this question and learned a lot of amazing new words! We are reading a story called A Weed is a Flower. It is a biography about George Washington Carver and his inventions using the peanut! Tomorrow we will get to do a fun writing piece called “A Diary of a Peanut” to write about some of the neat things he used peanuts to make. Lexia CompetitionThis month is the Lexia Competition month! Each class is challenging themselves to spend 45 minutes or more per week on Lexia. The winner will get an Ice Cream Party!! We spent some time using it in the lab this week! MathWe started learning about multiplication and how to solve these problems using repeated addition. We practiced this skill by breaking up into groups and figuring out how many fingers, noses, and ears we had in each group. Then we practiced making equal groups and writing multiplication sentences using markers and unifix cubes. We will spend the rest of the week practicing these skills at the teacher table and then rotating through stations to review our addition and subtraction facts. ScienceWe are still learning about landforms. On Monday we reviewed the different types of landforms by working with a partner to make and then play a memory game! We matched the landform to its description. Today we started a Mystery Science lesson about the flow of rivers. We are making paper mountains to observe how water flows down them and to the ocean in the form of rivers. Next week we will make our rivers and spray water on them to see what happens. Change is SimpleWe has another fun Change is Simple lesson last Friday! This time we learned about making compost and keeping the soil filled with nutrients so that we can grow healthy food. We also learned about the importance of worms and even met some of these wiggly creatures!!!
